An amazing series
Whew, what a Game 7 of the National League Championship Series. I thought I had it there at the end when I was pinch-hitting in the ninth inning. It all was set up for one of those late-inning victories. I mean, Endy Chavez goes and makes that catch to rob Scott Rolen of a two-run homer in the sixth inning -- that catch was crazy. I wasn't in the dugout, because I was in the clubhouse getting stretched out. And then we heard the cheers. The play was delayed on the TV in here and we saw it happen. It was crazy. Just wild. I mean, the first thing I thought was, "It's a good thing I'm not out there." I have to give it up to Endy, but, you know, if I had two good wheels, I might have been able to make that grab, too. Who knows? If I was healthy, I might have been able to do a lot of things for the boys, the fans and the team.
I thought things were set up for us, though, after the catch. Then they take a lead on Yadier Molina's ninth-inning homer and things just seemed like they were put in place for us. It was like the baseball gods were doing something crazy again. And here at Shea Stadium of all places. When I came up, all I could think about was that Kirk Gibson home run in Game 1 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium in 1988, when he blasted a long ball on one good wheel. And that was me walking up there. The fans were going wild like they've been all year, all series.
I was looking to send them home happy, make this place get even louder than it was on that first pitch. But I swung so hard, so fast that I literally saw it fly by my bat. And that kind of woke me up. I was like, "Whoa, slow down and chill. You have to focus." And that's what I did. The next one that I swung at, man, I thought I had that as well. And when a guy's down like that, like you know you got him in trouble with people on base, you have to make the most of it and take advantage of the pitches he gives you. If you don't, then you saw what happened. But his curveball was real big, like it starts up so high and drops down for a strike. When Jeff Suppan and Chris Carpenter throw that, usually it doesn't get in there for a strike, but Adam Wainwright drops in there perfect for a strike without you ready for it. That last one did just that.
I felt real disappointed for the fans, for Willie Randolph and for these guys. I wasn't able to come through for them at that point, but also because I couldn't be there for them a lot of the season and in the playoffs. I wanted to, but it's just been real frustrating. Things started out like that this season and ended that way as well.
I thought, though, that we'd still pull it out when Carlos Beltran came to bat with the bases loaded and two out. But Wainwright dropped that same pitch on him. It was weird when that last out happened, because when I was in the playoffs before with the Marlins, nobody else ran on the field and celebrated. It was just weird and disappointing to see someone else do that here. I just never thought someone else would be able to beat us on our own turf.
But you have to tip your hat to them, because they came in and did the job and took care of business. Now they're going to Detroit and we're not. We'll see what happens. But we battled. When you have two of your top pitchers go down before the playoffs start and you have two guys step up like John Maine and Oliver Perez, you know we came to play. Those guys did a heck of a job -- just incredible. It's exciting to see what they did, because they gave Willie and general manager Omar Minaya something to talk about for next season so that they can come back here and hopefully challenge for a spot in the rotation.
As far as me, I'm going to have surgery next week on my injured Achilles tendon and then get in a good rehab session. It's going to be a good four months of therapy, but I'm going to call Omar and let him know how it's going and that I want to be a part of this team next year. It's been frustrating, because I know what I have to offer and I know what I can bring to this team. These guys have been incredible this year, not only on the field but in here, hanging out. It's been the best team I've ever been a part of. It's been disappointing not only from a team standpoint but also a personal standpoint because of some family issues that happened this year and not being able to contribute the way I wanted. But it's been such a joy to be around these guys this year. And that's why it was so disappointing at the end, because I wanted to help the boys out.
I just have to thank Willie for sticking with me and giving me the opportunity to be in there and give me the chances. I owe him a lot and he means so much to me. He's been incredible to play for and hopefully I can be back again next year. I know it's a business and I know that part of it. But I'm going to give them something to think about and get healthy so they can have Cliff in mind when they decide on a team for next year.
After the surgery, I'm just going to get away from baseball for a bit and mostly spend a lot of time with my kids. That's the best you can do -- get your mind away from the game for a little while and just spend some quality time with your family and kids, if you have them.
But it's been an amazing season, and I just want the fans to know how much I thank them for their words of support and how special it means that they've been pulling for me. I hope I'm back to show them the real Cliff next year, and hopefully it'll be playing for the Mets. I'm going to work hard to do so, I know that. So keep pulling for ol' Cliff. I'll be back.

I truly thank you and all of your teammates for a wondefrul season. I am so proud of you guys. I told my friends before the game tonight, that no matter what, you've made every Met fan proud. Once again, thanks for a great year and I look forward to another great season in '07. God Bless and enjoy the off season!

Cliff, thanks for an amazing season and blogging during the playoffs. It gave us a great perspective on what the players are actually going through. Hope ya have an awesome season next year no matter what team you end up on.

My man Cliff:
I congratulate you and the Mets organization for a wonderful season.
I hope that you will get healthy and return with the Mets.
With all due respect, the reality is that I think that Endy Chavez is ready to assume the everyday role as outfielder.
Although his hitting is nowhere near as good as yours, this kid is a proven commodity in the field.
In all of my years in postseason, I have never seen a catch like that. During the regular season, yes, but during post season when all of the marbles are on the table, no.
It should be a nice spring training competition between the both of you, should you return with the Mets.
Since its apparent that you are injury prone, its important that we have you rest as much as possible during the season.
This would be ideal, but obviously I would imagine that you would want to play everyday.
You are right, Cliff, the chemistry of this team is great, and you have contributed mightily towards it.
I wish you the best in your surgery, and a great 2007 season hopefully with the Mets!

Cliff, that surgery is going to get you going good, and I do so hope you're a Met next year.
No doubt, this one was tough to lose. But I'm ready to blog tomorrow about the highs we Mets fans have gotten in the past coupla weeks. We're an injured team. We were supposed to be hobbled and down for the count before the counting ever began.
Well, that didn't happen. Instead what happened was we made New York a Mets town again.
Thanks, Cliff Floyd, for making me a Mets fan. You did that when you were injured in 2003. And you'll keep battling back and giving us great memories.
Here's what I said at Shea after taking a moment to be sad. I mean it, too. But then...you know that.

Thank you, Cliff, and all the Mets! It was a fantastic year... what a great bunch - with excellent attitudes. I'm very proud of the entire team... players and management. Really looking forward to next year and the years that follow. Mets took great strides this year and are continuing in a positive direction. I also love the chemistry.
Family time is important... enjoy it, Cliff. You get healthy, work hard and give Omar and Willie every reason to want you back.
All the best... and a big heartfelt thank you!

I saw your at-bat in that rough ninth from my seats in the stands...it truly was a heartbreaker...but for my first post season game I could not have asked for a better effort from the Mets.
You guys fought till the very last out, and did not go quietly into the off-season.
Get healthy, get back, and get us a championship next year!

Cliff.....You are a met. A real met. You mean a lot to us, on the bench or off. Ya, Endy's great, But just because you wear a met outfit, doesn't mean your'e a met. I want my mets on the field! Im here in dc, a college student, and of course the boys were at my crib. It was the 9th inning, and we were thinking about who could possibly pinch hit. I said quietly....CLIFF? Everyone erupted! CLIFF!!!!!! just to see you take the plate was a great point in the night. We all loved to see our ol' boy.
Yea, we didn't take it tonight, but you know what, you guys made so many people happy this year, and we understand that there's always next season. But cliff, I really do want you to understand this, coming from some random white kid who wants to be a lawyer one day. People of all classes, races, backgrounds.......We look up to guys like you. You're a class act, and god bless this off season.
When i go to RFK to watch my mets in Washington next season, you better be there! otherwise, the met front office will here it from this met fan! LETS GO METS IN 07!
PS..... There's nothing like a cliff Floyd blast to right field. NOTHING LIKE IT!!....MAYBE PIAZZA...NA, NOTHING!

my boy CLifffy.
i dont know what to say, of course im shocked and dissapointed but after reading your blog i jus felt i had to tell you, dont apologize please, we dont need you to do that. We know you go out everytime you can and give it all you possible have for us every night. And after last season, when you literally carried us all year, no apology needed. Now i know its a business and theres talk of you not returning to play for the Mets, I just wanted to say you know i'd love to have u back, but whatever you decide to do next year i will be ruiting for you and I will never forget what you did for these Met teams when we needed you most. But most importantly whatever happens in my heart you will always be a met, and I will always appreciate everything you have done for this organazation, both on the field and off. You are truly a class act, im proud to root for you, and goodluck and godspeed with whatever the future brings for you Cliff. Dont know what else to say except thanks and u go get well and hopefully be back to help us next year buddy

Hey Cliff,
When I saw Yadier Molina hit that home run, my heart just sank...I didn't think we had a chance to come back because our 7-8-9 hitters weren't getting it done tonight, but when they got on base, I thought we had a chance to tie it or possible win with a walk off or something. I never thought the season would end like this. What can you do? You just have to get ready for next year and I hope you'll be healthy again and you're still with us. I think we lost because Jose Reyes didn't get on base and we all know how that's the key to winning a ball game and scoring tons of runs. Good Luck on your surgery and have fun during your off season =)

I think that Stout has been right all along. I had respect for you for a while during this series Floyd. However, I read this at the beginning of the blog:
"I have to give it up to Endy, but, you know, if I had two good wheels, I might have been able to make that grab, too. Who knows?"
Are you f'ing kidding me? I am a Cardinals fan here in St.Louis. I was sure after that catch it was in the stars for us to lose, that it was your team destined to go to the World Series. BUT COME ON CLIFF.
That was THE GREATEST play in post season history by far. How dare you give him a backhanded compliment by saying it was awesome "BUT I COULD HAVE DONE IT TOO". That's not right.
2. Mets, your fans are pieces of dog poop (can't use the word I want) but your team is one of the funnest and classiest group of guys, especially JOSE, JOSE, JOSE. They are absolutely entertaining and enjoyable to watch. It's sad that such a great group of guys have to be represented by this cry baby who says the Cardinals fans at home are weak, complains about his injury without giving credit to his teamates when it's due, and a group of a-holes which attend your home games and boo every player on the opposing team.
I understand that your fans had a problem with Pujols' comment about Glavine. POINT TAKEN. However, booing Eckstein? Honestly. Booing Wilson and Encarnacion? Really? Cheering; "LOOPER ***** LOOPER *****" Which coincidentally is true, lol. You need classy fans for a classy team not trashy fans for a classy team.
New York, your **** stinks like the rest of us. It just so happens you were the city immigrants decided to settle in great numbers, that's all. Respect the rest of the country and realize there are more cities than New York and more states than New York, and i don't mean California. There are 48 other states besides New York and California, where we are just as equal as you. Deal with it. Learn from it and move on. Get over yourselves

I've been hitting both the Cardinals' and this site since game 1 and wanted to tip my hat to a fantastic New York Mets team. As a life long Cardinals fan, hating the Cubs and the Mets came easy. Going into game 1 that hate was even easier, but through this series I had the chance to see one of the best managers in baseball lead a team of talented players that fought to the bitter end. You guys are a class act all the way.

Diehard, St. Louis Cardinals fan here. Just wanted to congratulate the Mets on an awesome season and series. I didn't watch the Mets at all this year, but by the end of this series, I couldn't help but like the team. Classy club from top to bottom with a tremendous amount of heart. It's great to see guys having so much fun on the field too. Had you beat the Cards, I would have been rooting for you to go all the way. Without a doubt, you'll be in the same position next year, and most likely with a much healthier team.. so best of luck to you guys! And to Endy... one of the best catches I have ever seen!!!

WOW!! What a series! I've followed the Mets since 1969 (I'm 50, if you're wondering) and have gone through all the ups and downs since then. This definately ranks with the best! That catch by Endy has to rank with the one by Mays in the Polo Grounds - incredible.
I also suffer from aches and pains in the knees, ankles, and achilles, Cliff. Everytime I see you whince in pain, I have sympathy pains right along with you. I can just imagine how much you wanted to be in there the whole series - that had to be tough. Congrats to Willie and Omar for at least making you eligible to play for the series. You've had more than your share of hard times the last 4 years with the injuries and it would have been poetic justice if you had the game winning hit last night. Oh, well.
I, along with everyone else, wish you a speedy recovery and health for the rest of your career. Let me play the GM's role for a second - would you possibly consider a part-time role with the club, mostly for the sake of your legs? Love to see you back with the Mets - you are truly a class act!

First of all, I'd like to thank Babfaces for being such a gracious winner. Your comment about immigrants landing in New York is just plain ignorant and idiotic...perhaps you are a decendant of one of those immigrants? Ah, heck no...you were probably hatched!
As for you Cliff...we were robbed by not having you in the lineup...there were injuries on both sides, but having your presence and power would have made a difference.
Great season nevertheless, and I really do hope you are part of the Mets team in 2007. Get healthy and enjoy the off season and thanks for the effort and class.

Dear Cliff,
I am so thankful for this season, it has truly been something special. I, too, wish you will come back as a Met next year. You have become one of my favorite players and I def. believe in you. Like everyone else, my heart sank when Molina hit that homerun, and as I was sitting in the upper reserves, the stadium began to shake, and the best thing about being a Mets fan, is that everyone believed until that final strike that this team would come back. Well, hopefully this can just be a story that will be told as the year before the Mets win it all. Because as Tug says "ya gotta believe" and I most certainly do. I really hope to see you next year! Good luck with your surgery and feel better!

As much as I rspected you before, seeing you go up there to pinch hit and give it your all last night made me respect you even more. Let me say that I am outraged that you would come on this blog after you guys have won and disgrace not only Cliff, but the culture of New York. Just so you know, you really didn't have to go there but you did. So do me a favor and worry about your Cards and see what they have to face when they see a healthy and strong starting pitching that have two or three guys that can pitch well over 100 mph. Yeah, you made the NLCS, but don't come and rain on our site and disgrace us the way you did.
You talk about us Mets fans being classless, but you have shown the most classless act that any fan has ever done by coming on this site and insulting the Mets Fan. There is no place for that anywhere and I will be praying for you, because you need help.

Thank you for everything. Thank you for being a guy I enjoy rooting for. Thank you for hanging in in 2004 (I think that was the seasoon) when you were hurt but stayed in the lineup and played your butt off till Piazza came off the DL. Thank you for this blog. You have definitely enriched my experience as a baseball fan, and short of winning a world series, that is all a fan can ask for. You and the rest of the team really delivered this year.
I hope they find a place for you on the team next year.

Cliff,
Now down to the real nitty gritty. This is by far the best team that I have seen where the New York Mets uniform and the chemistry is so radiant. You have giving us a great view through this blog of all that we cannot see on the field and grately appreciate that MLB and the Mets have allowed us this privilige. It has been a great season and I am hoping that we can make some moves next year that will propel this team into the legendary status that it deserves in New York baseball.
I was initially upset about the game last night, but knew that regardless of how it played out, that the Mets gave their all. Especially with all the odds against us and have to say, I prefer to be considered the underdogs then the favorites. That is what this team represented to me back in 1985, and that what this team is up to this point.
Cliff, thank you so much for the great times that you all have giving us Mets fan and the honor and privilige to get to know you through these blogs. I hope that you will not only get well, but that you can be healthy for the remainder of your career as a Mets player. Do me one favor when you are recovering and retraining and look into how Tiki Barber maintains his health in football. That may be the key to your health.
Thanks again.

Cliff, thanks for all your contributions, which weren't only with your bat. Your great personality, even when you've been hurt, is part of what kept this team loose. Yeah, you're right, business is business, and obviously Omar won't be offered you the same kind of money after your unfortunate '06 season as he would have after your '05. But we just hope he'll bring you back! You're all heart and a big, big part of what makes are Mets tick! And thanks too for this blog, which made us all feel like we were there in the dugout with you.
Remember what happened after losing in '85? We're gonna do it again, all the way in '07!! LET'S GO METS - I love you guys xxxx

Hey Cliff,
I am SO heartbroken, but I choose to take a different approach. Last year you guys were 71-91 and this year you had the best record in baseball AND fought tooth and nail to get to game 7 of the NLCS. Suppan and Perez did an awesome job and someone had to lose. You guys have NOTHING to be ashamed of. You kept plugging away and it is an accomplishment to get as far as you did. Sure, we, the fans are dissappointed, but it just broke my heart to see the looks on your faces when Beltran made that last out. You worked so hard and YOU ARE THE BETTER TEAM, you just came up a little short. Keep your heads up! We'll get 'em next year! The fans love you and the whole team. Enjoy the offseason. See ya at Spring Training:)
Much love,
Karin

Please come back Cliff. For so many of us who have suffered through the lean years and now see the likes of a team that can contend and at times dominate for years to come, you are our favorite player.

It was an AMAZIN' season. Wow! What a play by Endy! Of course,I was hoping Carlos Beltran would pull it out, but I'm sure no Mets fan blames him for the loss. If anything, we are grateful because he helped get us there. Everyone was great! I truly hope to see you back next season. Good luck with your surgery. CAN'T WAIT 'TILL SPRING!

HUGE Cards fan here...just wanted to say to you, Cliff, and to the rest of the Mets fans that this was truly an incredible series. Nothing happened the way anyone thought - Carpenter didn't pitch shut out innings, Pujols didn't hit homer after homer, Perez didn't choke and neither did Maine. INCREDIBLE series. Although...I must be honest, it will be nice not to hear the "Ole Ole Ole Ole" cheer anymore. Actually, I like the cheer, but when I'm sitting at my desk at work (some call it the Cardinals Shrine), wearing my Cards Gear, staring at my Cards screen saver, ordering Cards balloons and singing "Ole Ole Ole Ole..." well, it makes for a few hostile stares :-)
Thanks for a great series and good luck next year!

There are two parts of this messaqe, one is for cliff, and one is to vent my fury at the people who feel it is appropriate to come to this blog to vent their nastiness.
To Cliff, I can't say it didn't break my heart last night when beltran struck out. I was born and raised a mets fan by a dad that used to go see Dodgers games at Ebbots field. Its been a while since i've had a reason to hope, even though i was always cheered for the mets and gone to games. Maybe it hurt more cause i went into this game thinking "we've got to win this, there's no way were gonna lose", and every time you put your whole heart in to something, you take the risk of having it bruised. I know there are lots of other mets fans out there who feel the same way, and im sure everyone on the team is a bit heart broken. However, you gotta know there was nothing you could have done. Are we gonna blame Martinez and El duque cause they were on the dl? NO. Stuff happened. going into this post-season we all knew it was gonna be hard to survive, one because we lost two of our star starters, with really only Glavine as a reliable pitcher with lots of experience, and two because honestly, the team was slipping a little in september. So then, to go sweep the dodgers, that was amazing. It gave me hope again. And then to against the Cards, who we knew were no joke, and manage to get to game 7, was spectacular. Right now im heartbroken a bit because i really allowed myself to hope, but even now im starting to recognize what a truly amazing year and post-season this has been. You guys essentially came back from the dead. You lead the NL all year, and we have some of the best players in the league, who really love their team. And we know that most of you guys love being Mets, and are dedicated to this team. I remember hearing about a press-conference when some reporter made some smart aleck comment about how the mets, or the nl, i dont remember, are inferior, and i remember hearing about Lo Duca's rather, ummm, forceful response. Lol, that gave me a few laughs. It gives us heart to know how much you guys love being mets, because we love you guys. So Omar, if by any chance you read these comments, we want floyd back next year. We really want Endy too,***** that catch was amazing, but we want floyd back. Hes a part of the team. Cliff, i wish you the best of luck with your recovery, have fun with yur fam, and i sure hope to see you again in the spring.
And now, to those ****** *** folk who think they can come up in this site and spout that ********. What the **** is wrong with you? I am a die hard Mets fan, but i would never e so disgusting a human being as to go onto another teams site, especially a team the mets just beat, and brag about having won. Didn't your parents ever teach you common human decency? I want to thank the Cards fans who came on this blog and gave respect to the mets for a series and a season well played. I would say the same back. It was a good series, and the Cards played hard, and beat us fair and square. BUT TO THE FANS, ALL THE FANS OF OTHER TEAMS, WHO CAME ON THIS SITE TO TALK ****, DONT YOU HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO? ARE YOU SO PATHETIC THAT THIS IS HOW YOU GET YOUR JOLLIES? To anyone who really got joy out of coming and talking smack, then it really doesnt matter what i say, because decency isnt very familiar to them, and they wouldnt see what they did as being wrong. I feel really sad for you people, that all you want to is make other people feel bad. When the Cards get beaten by the Tigers, which im sorry to say is probably gonna happen, ****, the Mets probably would've gotten beaten by the Tigers too, I will be tempted to go to your site and spout nasty **** at you, but see i won'e, cause that's where that whole human decency thing comes in, plus im just not a genuinely mean person. GO have a nice fu**ing day why dont you.

Cliff, I really hope you read this post...I know a little about adversity with cancer...My mom passed away from that terrible disease almost 4 years ago...I now how it feels to have someone so close to you die so suddenly...And to see how you've managed your career in the midst of that is really a tribute to you and your character...Now, I can't claim to know you anymore than others that watch you on television, but I can say that you have shown nothing but class, character and strength throughout this season...I don't have short term memory...I know what a healthy Cliff Floyd can do both in the box and on the field...I think you could have caught that ball, just like i've seen you make so many diving plays in the outfield...You are about 7 inches taller than Chavez so you would have had a tremendous shot at catching it...But I, along with you and every other Met fan out there loves Endy and knows that he made a tremendous play out there...Nothing short of what he's been doing since you went down...So hats off to him...On your injury, I played ball in college and lived off of my athleticism...However, I tore my achilles twice last year and have been struggling since...I know how painful it can be...And I also know how difficult it is to plant, accelerate and pivot...So watching you, I understood what you were going through...But you get paid to perform and I know it must have been tough for you to go through this...Having said that, as a fan, you gave it all you had and that should be rewarded...Minaya should understand that you can get healthy after surgery and rehab and you are the key to this lineup's success...I fully expect to see you back on the field in a Met uniform. Take care of the leg, rehab diligently and come back strong...I'm sure your teammates, fans, Chanta (your sis) and my mom (a huge Met fan)are smiling down on you.
Take care, God bless and see you in left next year!

Cliffie, you have been a rock for the Mets the past few years. We have loved having you here in NY. If there's anyway you would stay - I could see you as a pinch hitter extraordinairre and great platooning OF-er - then please do, because you are certainly a Met in this long-time fan's book.
We know how badly you wanted to hit that homer - I wanted it as much for you as I did for the team! - but these things dont always work out.
We love you Cliff, good luck with everything.

Cliffy:
Us fans know that you gave it your all this year. Last year, you were banged up, but you pushed through it and put up a fantastic season both offensively and defensively. This year your body just let you down. But us NY fans truly know the effort you put forth to get on the field. I had the pleasure of meeting you (and D-Wright) this year down in Port St. Lucie, and you both were the most considerate, easy-going guys that you appear to be on TV, and posed for pictures with us. I truly hope you return next year because I know what you bring to the team on the field and in the clubhouse. Tell the boys to keep their chins up, and I'll see you at Duffy's in March...

Hey Mets!!! That was hands down THE most exciting series I can remember in recent history! Beltran and Delgado are like a Mike Tyson One Two punch. I have to say that I havent been so stressed out over a playoff game , ever.
When Beltran came up in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded, I thought that it was going to be a party in Detroit for Mets fans.
Thank you for raising my blood pressure by 10 points and I look forward to seeing The Mets in 2007.:}

Cliff,
It was a tough loss to swallow but that's the way it goes in baseball. The '73 Mets team went 82 and 79 and went to the Series and lost to Oakland in seven games. The team with the better record doesn't necessarily win.
I was a third generation Brooklyn Dodger and have been a Mets fan since the beginning and this was a truly wonderful season. Thanks to you and all your teammates for a highly entertaining season.
With this experience behind the team and with the personnel the Mets already have, I expect that next season may bring NY National League fans the championship we truly deserve.

The Mets have a lot to be proud of. They had a great season even if we didn't make it to the WS.
Good luck with surgery and rehab Cliff. Enjoy the off season. See ya next year.

Hey Cliff I just want to say that I have so much respect for you and wish you good luck with wherever you decide to play next year. I know things didn't look good when you first came here but you played your heart out. Last year you were definitely our MVP (And I think you should have won a Gold Glove). You were willing to tear a body part to help this team win and if that is not dedication I don't know what is. Again Good Luck with the surgery and your future. If you are not a Met next year, I hope to be at Shea for your first return so we can give you a loud ovation.

Dear Cliff and all the Mets, Thanks for a wonderful season. I got so much pleasure from the games this year, and the post season was exciting, even though it ended sooner than we had all hoped. Cliff,
Thank you guys for such a great season of thrills. We, as fans , have waited a long time for a season like this & although we didn't get to our ultimate goal, you guys gave us so many thrills throughout the year. From Carlos B game winning homer in the 8-7 Cardinal game to winning the division, to the NLDS to game 7 of the NLCS, it just went on & on. Thank you again. Hope you will return next year.

Hey Cliff. Great Season guys. Heartbreaking way to end the season but it's only due to the fact this wonderful season spoiled us. I pray that you come back next year strong and healthy. Everyone knows what you can do when you're healthy. 2006 Mets were great. 2007 Mets will be the BEST!!!
And to that piece of stained toilet paper left off by St. Louis ( Babfacesm). Dude, remember what a healthy NY METS team did to your team. Yea, your team got the win this time, well deserved, but keep it in perspective. Our team as decimated as we were with injuries we still took your team to the last out.

Cliff, it was fun reading your blog while it lasted.
I hope you and Endy are in top shape next year, and the Expos get the team back and you can both go and play for them again in Montreal.
But, I guess that's kind of unlikely.

Cliff, first off thanks to you and ALL of your teammates, coaches and ownership for a Tremendous season. We came up short but served notice to ALL that this Franchise is relevant again. You all gave us great memories and the future looks great. I sincerely hope you do come back. Regardless of what some people on this blog have stated (I don't need to mention names here) you are a big part of this team both on and off the field. I know you're all feeling a little disappointment and some hurt over the way things ended but sometimes we gotta go through a little heartache to make achieving our goals that much sweeter. I would tell you and all the players to try to remember this feeling. Sounds crazy I know but if you do, you won't want to feel it ever again and it will only make all of you hungrier and focused to make sure you don't feel it again. Rest assured those of us who bleed orange and blue will always be with you during the good and the bad. I just ask that you or whoever reads this blog, convey our thanks and our "positive" remarks to your teammates and to Management. Especially Willie and Omar. Thanks again Cliff and as always, GO METS!!!!!!

From a diedhard Cards and Nats fan: I watched so many of your games this year and developed a great respect for the tenacity and skill of the whole Mets team. Thanks for a great season of exciting baseball and an AMAZING NLCS. I know you all will be back into the thick of it next October...hope we have a rematch.
And to both the Cards and Mets "fans" who feel it necessary to use these blogs as their personal nasty grams...grow up. None of you have any class and you're certainly not real baseball fans. Healthy rivalry is great...but any time you have to fill your post with a bunch of asterisks instead of words, you need a reality check.
Cliff: I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery in the off season. Thanks for some great, nail-biting games this season!

Cliff,
We were thinking the same thing when you were walking up to bat. I was envisioning you limping around the bases, Kirk Gibson-esque, the APPLE rising high, the crowd going wild, after a 3 run walk off HR to lift us in the World Series. Even those first 2 hits by Valentin and Chavy eerily reminded me of the 2 hits that Carter and Mitchell mustered up in the infamous Game 6 against the Sox. Baseball is such a tough game though, it can go either way at any time, and Wainwright just had that nasty curve working for him. Even Reyes got some good wood on it, a little more the right and that is a gapper that ties up the game. Oh well, I guess it is pointless coming up with "what ifs". You guys gave us such a great season that I just want to thank you all for your hard work and dedication. You'll be a MET next year, I have no doubt. Take care of that achilles and get better soon. Thanks again, Cliff. We'll get 'em back in 2007!

Cliff when willy let you hit in a bunt situation I loved him for it as much as I loved watching you play throughout your carreer. It doesn't matter much to me (the morning after) that it didn't work out as we'd all hoped, I'm still very happy that you went up there for us and took your hacks. I've been a Met fan for 25 years and I'm as proud as anyone could be to call you my favorite player.

Hey Cliff its Clutch and it has been a pleasure seeing you in a Mets uniform. I remember back in 2005 when this team turned everything around, and you were the biggest part of that. With Beltran struggling and Piazza injured, you were the most feared hitter and the driving force in our lineup. I remember your long swing beating the cardinals at shea stadium with a longball off the scoreboard! With the youth movement lurking in the future, your going to have to refocus on things like you did in the winter of 04'/05'. Nobody thought you would have been a Met this long with all the trade rumors, but u have percevered. I hope the Mets dont turn their back on you like they did Piazza. Cliff, I would just like to say thanks for bringing a smile back to a life long mets fan. Goodluck with whatever comes your way, and I wish nothing but the best to you and your family in the future.

Love you Cliff - a true Met, you've bled blue and orange since you signed here and don't think the fans don't know it and appreciate it. Still convinced you were on the cusp of a huge post-season (oh, that monster shot in NLDS Game 1!!) before you got the flat tire. We'll miss your heart - best of luck as a DH/outfielder in the AL next year (Tampa?). HOWEVER, no offense to you, but Willie should have pinch-hit Glavine to bunt in that spot, advanced the runners and set-up a potential tie game with a single. How the heck were you going to run out ANYTHING other than a home run (though it would have been awesome!)? Have a great offseason and get healthy - looking forward to rooting for you no matter where you play next year.

Fellow Mets fans, don't get upset by a Cards fan, didn't we all get a great laugh out of how awesome Cards fans thought Spiezio's facial hair was? And then, they actually emulated it? New Yorkers would know better. We'll always have that ridiculous vision in our minds while we watch the Tigers devour them.

I'm saving all my posts from now on since they keep getting deleted. When they get deleted, I'm going to repost them all again.
For starters, Cliff Floyd proved me right. He wasted a roster spot and brought the team down everytime he came up to bat.
0 for 3, K
Great playoff stats you overrated ****. You won't be on the roster next year Floyd, Chavez proved himself better than you. They won't pay big money to sign an old, injured player. You might as well just retire, no team will pay your salary. You can't run, you can't hit, you can't do anything anymore.
Way to waste a roster spot when a real pinch hitter could have won the game. You may have cost the Mets a chance to go to the World Series by standing there and watching strike 3 like the choke you are.
Everyone here owes me an apology. I predicted this would happen from Game 1 but you all lived on the dream that Cliff Floyd would somehow hit a homerun even though he hit 11 all year. There's a difference between being living in the real world and living in the magical Cliff Floyd dream world where Cliff Floyd hit homeruns all the time.
Retire Cliff. You're done. It's over.

Metsgirl made a great point that I forgot to mention in my previous email - that you guys went down fighting 'til the very end. After Molina's HR, a lot of teams would've packed it in, but not our beloved Mets warriors. I will never forget how you guys fought, and how hard you tried even on one leg. The 2006 Mets represent the best of what NY is. Though I live in Jersey, I'm proud to be a NEW YORK METS FAN! Thanks again for everything, Cliff.

Wow! Looks like babface came back in the form of stout1804! It seems obvious these 2 never played the game and have no idea what they're talking about. If the Mets had 25 guys like these 2 clowns, they never would've made the playoffs to begin with!
