It all comes down to Game 7
The big thing for us is that we live to see another day after our win in Game 6 on Wednesday night. Hopefully it gives me another day to get ready and help us win a game. If we make the World Series, my main goal is to be healthy enough to be included on the Fall Classic roster.
I feel pretty good, and my injured Achilles tendon is coming around. But it takes time. Like anything else, you don’t want to do anything stupid to jeopardize your team’s chance of going to the World Series.
It’s tough being on the bench and not being able to contribute. It’s terrible, but it is what it is. I’ve learned not to let your emotions get too high and just go with the flow. And if I get an opportunity, I will try and make the most of it.
I’m not trying to be a coach or anything on the bench. I’m just taking it all in and hoping the guys do good and we get to the next round. I’m just being a cheerleader in the dugout. I even start singing that song for Jose Reyes. I love it, the fans love it. They appreciate a player like that and I find myself chanting it — even in the car on the way home.
Everybody was chilling on the plane ride home from St. Louis after Game 5 on Tuesday night. We felt good coming home. We were happy to get out of St. Louis and get back home to our fans. We play well here at Shea Stadium, so nobody was really worried about us possibly being eliminated from the postseason.
It was tense and tight on Wednesday. Everyone was stressing a bit, but we just had to get the job done. There are kind of similarities to when I was playing in the postseason with Florida in 1997. But you just have to get it done. Hey, the Cardinals are going through the same thing, but they’re in a tougher environment. If they can win here, you just have to tip your hat to them. This is a crazy place. We sense it’s going to be tough for them when we’ve got the crowd on our side. In St. Louis, it was nothing. We felt like we could deal with it. The crowd never got into Game 5. They were a little loud, but nothing too distracting. Playing there was nothing.
Manager Willie Randolph probably will say the same thing to me about my chances of playing. I don’t even think that if I said I felt pretty good he would mess with the chance of playing me and jeopardizing getting injured even worse. So, right now, I think we’re stuck with what we got. I made this bed, so I need to lie in it.

Remember back in 2005 and the wonderful season you had. You get your pitch and you launch it into the New Stadium! 2 previous times the Mets were down 3-2 going into Game 6. Both times before the Mets Lost. Not this year! Things are already starting to change and tonight will be no different. Tonight I feel your going to make the difference and I trust you with that last at bat! Go Floyd!

The only way for Wagner to stay out of the game is if we score a LOT of runs. Reyes will start it off again. What a lineup we’ve got. Turn the power loose and we’ll never see Wagner. But he can give you a classic 9th inning, that is three K’s or one like he did the other night. You never know. Just score a bunch, guys.

The thing that scares me about tonite is it seems the Cards are making better adjustments to our pitchers than we are to theirs. I can’t concentrate at work. All I think about is tonight’s game 7! Last night was electric just watching it on TV. Reyes set the tone early and I hope that happens again tonight. The pieces are in place, got nice contributions from a few people last night. I hope you and everyone else can tell Jose to stay loose, he needs to be aggressive on those base paths! Give Wagner a 4 run lead again tonight and I know he won’t blow it.

Well, I am a firm believer in the concept “You reap what you sow”. I think their hearts are going to be broken in this next series. Anyway, enough about them.
Cliff – you are a class player. These idiots do not know you for who you are. You are the heart and soul of this team. You play hurt. You play with passion. We love you for that. We want you back in left field next year, so please take it easy this winter and get healthy! We are proud of you and the Mets. It was a great year. To get this far with two of our top starters, a top releiver, and you sidelined, wow, that says something about this team. Don’t worry about yoru 9th inning strikeout – that pitch was incredible and you just need to tip your cap to him. This game was lost in the 1st inning, because our batters were not aggressive. Congrats to the Cards, but wait until next year!

Just reading your blogs this post season shows me and all of us how much heart you truly have. We love you man, you’re the best, a true Met and you always will be even if (God forbid) you play for the Yanks next year or even worse, the Cards. Your the best, and what gets me excited is when you say, the real Cliff will be back. get healthy my friend, and bring the real Cliff back to Queens for next year. I just read the Cardinals fans comments, and I think they are just plain silly. If the Mets won, I’d be celebrating and happy with my friends who are Met fans and my Dad, who’s a Yankee fan, would say nice job, your Mets are finally doing it! But the Cardinals win and the fans actually decide to spend their time posting dumb comments. I think it’s hysterical and it just shows how there really is such a thing as a sore winner. It’s funny, we lost, and I was upset, but I’m already pumped for next year. They’re whining over the fact that they won, when we lost and we’re excited! Wow that’s funny. It’s all about karma baby, it will all come right back to them.
